An easy and durable way to make loofah dishcloths at home. Natural, glue-free, biodegradable, and better than store-bought ones.
1. Materials Needed
- Dried mature loofah (fully ripe, sun-dried, hard inside)
- Scissors
- Clean water
- Optional: needle and thread (for edging to make it more durable)
2. Steps (Super Easy)
-
Peel and remove seedsRub off the hard outer skin of the dried loofah. Cut both ends open and shake out the seeds. The remaining fibrous network is the loofah sponge.
-
Cut to sizeCut into your preferred shape and size:
- Small pieces: for cleaning cups
- Long strips: for washing dishes and pans
- Thick pieces: for cleaning stoves
-
Soften (important step)Soak in clean water for 10–20 minutes. The loofah will become soft and flexible, so it won’t scratch cookware. Squeeze out the water and it’s ready to use.
-
Reinforce (optional)Sew around the edges with cotton thread for a stronger, longer-lasting dishcloth.
3. Usage & Care Tips
- Soak in warm water before first use to protect coated pans.
- Rinse after use and hang to dry; it resists mold and odors.
- Pour boiling water over it to clean when dirty.
- When worn out, compost or discard directly — 100% biodegradable and zero pollution.
