An easy and durable way to make loofah dishcloths at home. Natural, glue-free, biodegradable, and better than store-bought ones.
Â
1. Materials Needed
Â
- Dried mature loofah (fully ripe, sun-dried, hard inside)
- Scissors
- Clean water
- Optional: needle and thread (for edging to make it more durable)
Â
2. Steps (Super Easy)
Â
-
Peel and remove seedsÂRub off the hard outer skin of the dried loofah. Cut both ends open and shake out the seeds. The remaining fibrous network is the loofah sponge.Â
-
Cut to sizeÂCut into your preferred shape and size:Â
Â
- Small pieces: for cleaning cups
- Long strips: for washing dishes and pans
- Thick pieces: for cleaning stoves
Â
-
Soften (important step)ÂSoak in clean water for 10–20 minutes. The loofah will become soft and flexible, so it won’t scratch cookware. Squeeze out the water and it’s ready to use.Â
-
Reinforce (optional)ÂSew around the edges with cotton thread for a stronger, longer-lasting dishcloth.Â
Â
3. Usage & Care Tips
Â
- Soak in warm water before first use to protect coated pans.
- Rinse after use and hang to dry; it resists mold and odors.
- Pour boiling water over it to clean when dirty.
- When worn out, compost or discard directly — 100% biodegradable and zero pollution.

I didn’t expect a natural material to be so eco-friendly. When it wears out, you can just bury it in a flower pot as fertilizer—it degrades completely!
This loofah dishcloth is seriously amazing! It doesn’t hold onto grease at all and rinses clean with just water.
